On September 16, Orchestras Canada/Orchestres Canada held its virtual Annual General Meeting for the year ending March 31, 2020. Thank you to the 89 organizational and individual members who registered their votes in person or by mailed-in ballot. We very much appreciated your participation! The AGM presented an opportunity for OC’s leaders to share the year’s achievements and challenges, highlight advocacy and member support services, report on its governance and finances, and update members on OC’s strategic orientations and membership campaign plans for 2021.

... summarized some of the key events of the past year- from the national conference at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa through to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. She expressed her gratitude to the OC team led by Katherine Carleton, the board members and the Canadian orchestral community, who “show up day after day to support bringing transformational music and programming to communities and people across the country.” Tanya also presented OC’s new one-year strategic plan . OC’s theme for the year is Resilience - and our commitment is to support orchestras with a specific focus on knowledge sharing, digital, and inclusion and diversity.

... reported on the year’s financial results, including a clean opinion from the auditor, overall growth of approximately 14% in both revenue and expenses thanks to increases in grants, national conference registrations, and membership fees – and increased staffing and activity to balance this, and an excess of revenues over expenses of $5935 for the year.

... delivered a report on the Board of Directors, thanking retiring board director Bruce Craig (PEI Symphony Orchestra) for his five years of service to OC, formally presenting the slate of directors for the 20-21 year, and updating members on OC’s work on board evaluation, a board matrix, OC’s Code of Ethics , Governance Framework and a comprehensive anti-harassment policy and program to complement OC’s adoption of the National Code of Conduct for the Performing Arts.
