The OBOE (Orchestra Benchmarking and Overview Explorer) Dashboard is a PowerBI-based data visualization platform that has been used to present Comparative Report data from 2005 to 2025.
OBOE allows for all years of Orchestras Canada’s Comparative Report data to be consolidated in one place in a visual and tabular format that allows exploration, manipulation, customizable views, drilling down and stepping back. OBOE has also been developed in French, named as HAUTBOIS.
Click the button below to launch OBOE. The password is provided to all participants of the Comparative Report project.
Note: For the best experience, please use a desktop computer. Some features may not work optimally on mobile devices.
Contribute your data
It’s easy to take part!
Our data team has created an intuitive, easy-to-use data input sheet to collect orchestras’ financial and contextual data. Once your annual information is finalized for your completed season, it can take less than an hour to fill out the input sheet.
Additionally, your data from the previous year is displayed in the input sheet for easier comparison and guidance, along with helpful definitions for each row. We also offer individual meeting time to help, in case you need assistance with the data contribution process.
All the provided data then automatically goes into our master data repository, so that we can publish the information in OBOE (for participant access only), and share the print-ready comparative report publicly.
Instructions for OBOE
- For the best experience, it’s recommended to use OBOE on a desktop or laptop computer.
- You will need an internet connection in order to properly load the dashboard.
- Once you click on the “LAUNCH OBOE” button on this landing page and then click on “View Interactive Content”, you will arrive at the first page of OBOE.
On every page of OBOE, you can scroll down to see more charts, graphs, and tables.
You can hover over any data visualization to see more specific details on that particular slice of analysis.
There are back and forward arrows both near the top of every page as well as at the bottom of the screen. These allow you to scroll between the various pages of OBOE.
At the bottom right of the screen, you’ll also see a slider to zoom in and out on the dashboard – this is useful for fitting all of the charts, graphs, and text labels nicely on your screen.
As you navigate left and right through the pages of OBOE, you’ll see the name of each page displayed at the top. There are also dropdown filters at the top to narrow down the data presented on every page.
Comparative Report
Apart from OBOE/HAUTBOIS, Orchestras Canada continues to publish the annual Comparative Report in static print-friendly format.
Exclusively for participants of the Comparative Report project, we also continue to provide the “raw data” of every year’s report in the format of the Master Table in both PDF and Excel files – these are emailed to the participants.
