COVID-19 Health and Safety Planning for Small Budget Orchestras
(Resilient Ontario Orchestras)
Orchestras Canada is delighted to welcome performing arts health and safety expert, Janet Sellery, CRSP, CHSC, –to lead a session specifically designed for smaller budget Ontario orchestras on planning for a safe orchestra re-opening this fall. In the first part of the session, Janet will present the fundamentals of an orchestra COVID-19 health and safety plan, and share a template (based on current provincial regulations) that she has developed for smaller budget Ontario orchestras. Then, she’ll host a panel discussion with John Kraus (Northumberland Orchestra & Choir), Marie Narini (Northumberland Orchestra & Choir), and Daniel Warren (Kitchener-Waterloo Community Orchestra). They’ll talk candidly about their learnings, their challenges with shifting regulations, how they’re handling communication with diverse orchestra stakeholders, and the questions that remain as they get ready for the fall season.
Everyone is welcome; please note, however that the materials are based on Ontario COVID-19 regulations. This event is the first in this fall’s series of on-line learning opportunities inspired by the Resilient Ontario Orchestras project, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. With support from OTF, we paired skilled consultants with Ontario orchestras to work with them on key challenges. With this event (and the ones that follow), we’re sharing some of the projects – and the learnings that came from them – with the broader community.
Speakers:
- Janet Sellery CRSP, CHSC, Health & Safety Consultant, Sellery Health + Safety
- John Kraus, Music Director and Conductor, Northumberland Orchestra & Choir (NOC)

OC will be organizing more online sessions throughout this fall to share learnings from a variety of Resilient Ontario Orchestras consulting projects – stay tuned!

*The Resilient Ontario Orchestras project is designed to help Ontario’s smaller budget orchestras and youth orchestras (groups with annual, pre-pandemic revenues under $500,000) access customized consulting help and resources to help them plan for a sustainable return to public performances as soon as it’s viable.
This project is made possible with generous support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $108 million to 629 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
