Data Enrichment for Canadian Orchestras

Date: September 13, 2022 | 2:00-3:30pm Eastern time

Bilingual Session

Cost: Free!

Have you heard of Wikidata?

It is a free and open knowledge base that Wikipedia, Google and other search engines use to get information about your orchestra! But did you know that you can add, edit and contribute to the information to enhance the search engine results about your orchestra? (and better yet: have them automatically scrape information about your upcoming events, music director, so you would only have to update this information ONCE to have it updated everywhere!)

This fall, Orchestras Canada will be hosting a step-by-step workshop, which aims to dive into (and improve!) the data of Canadian Orchestras in Wikidata! Participants will become familiar with how to become easily discovered by search engines, and have access to the data that contributes to it.

The session will start with a presentation of Wikidata and the batch publishing process, followed by adapted coaching for participants in small groups, guiding them step-by-step with some of the best experts in the field on how to contribute to enriching data in Wikidata!

No prior knowledge of Wikidata is required.

Who is this for: Marketing staff at orchestras, those who supervise marketing staff, and anyone who has to update the organization’s website and event listings!

Led by Frédéric Julien and Véronique Marino. Read their biographies.
