Early in 2023, we were delighted to collaborate with Rich Coburn, founder and director of BIPOC Voices, on a Canada Council for the Arts-funded project designed to answer a simple yet important question: Have Canadian orchestras diversified the repertoire they are bringing to the public in recent years, and are they actively including music by female, trans, non-binary, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) composers? And from that, the Canadian Orchestras Repertoire Report was born!
Rich Coburn will be working on a second report, with support from Orchestras Canada and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. To that end, Orchestras Canada is organizing several round table discussions to discuss how we can improve this second report and the current state of programming diversity in your organizations.
