Advocacy

At Orchestras Canada, we believe that orchestras matter. We focus on issues affecting orchestras’ community vitality and artistic excellence, including arts funding, tax policy, and live performing arts’ place in Canada’s diplomatic efforts.

Each year we:

  • Consult with our members and achieve consensus on key issues and potential solutions
  • Make the case for Canadian orchestras to federal MPs, senators, and senior policy officials
  • Develop resources that orchestras can use in their own advocacy work at local, provincial and national levels
  • Represent orchestras’ interests in consultation exercises affecting arts, not-for-profit and charitable groups
  • Engage in joint action with groups with complementary interests, including the Canadian Arts Coalition and Imagine Canada, among others

Election 2025

With the help of OC’s government relations advisor Eric Dubeau, OC will be keeping a close eye on relevant arts and culture policy announcements during the campaign, especially those with potential to affect orchestras.

Over the course of the campaign – and in the days that follow – we’ll be undertaking an analysis of arts and culture commitments within each of the main party platforms, as soon as possible after each platform is published. The analysis will be shared on this webpage.
