Madeleine Smith is a Toronto-based classical cellist with a passion for education and community development. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto where she studied with Joseph Johnson. Madeleine is in her final year of the Bachelor of Education program at York University.

In the summer of 2021, before stepping into her current role, Madeleine worked with Orchestras Canada and the Canadian Association for the Performing Arts as Communications and Resource Coordinator. 

Over the pandemic, she co-founded a masterclass series for emerging cellists, connecting pre-professionals to seasoned musicians across the globe. She also volunteered with a Toronto school to create virtual learning materials for the music and drama classrooms. As an Education Intern at Research Impact Canada, Madeleine designed a course for researchers called “Social Media for Knowledge Mobilization”.

Madeleine is currently Communications and Job Board Coordinator at Orchestras Canada and Administration and Development Assistant at the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. 

In her free time, Madeleine loves to read, bake, and go on walks in nature!
