Matt McGeachy (he/him) is an arts advocate currently serving since 2022 as Director of Government Relations for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, one of Canada’s leading cultural institutions.

He leads the TSO’s advocacy efforts with the municipal, provincial, and federal governments, positioning the TSO as a leader and trusted partner within the arts and culture industry in Canada. Matt actively collaborates with colleagues and peer institutions from across the country to secure sustained and sustainable funding that will continue to uplift Canadian artists on the global stage. Key accomplishments to date include: leading a group of 40+ artistic institutions from across Canada to secure an increase in federal funding to the Canada Council for the Arts; moving the TSO to a new Contribution Agreement model with the Ontario Arts Council; and securing a $10M investment from the City of Toronto in the Toronto Arts Council. He is also governance co-lead for the TSO, serving as board administrator and recording secretary for the Board of Directors, Nominations & Governance Committee, and DEI Committee. Key governance accomplishments include: the implementation of a new online board management system, Boardable; the updating of the TSO by-law for compliance with ONCA; and the creation of the TSO’s first DEI Strategic Framework.

Prior to the TSO, Matt spent 10 seasons as the Company Dramaturge at Factory Theatre, one of the most iconic theatres in Canada, collaborating with award-winning playwrights and directors. He has also worked at Canadian Stage, the Guthrie Theater, the Playwrights’ Center, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
