Financial Management for Smaller Budget Orchestras

Dates: January 12, 19, 26 and February 2, 2022

Cost:

  • Member Orchestras: $15 CAD per session, or $50 CAD for all four sessions (tax included)
  • Non-Members: $30 CAD per session, or $100 CAD for all four sessions (tax included)

Do your New Year’s resolutions include developing a better understanding of your orchestra’s finances? Or do you know someone who’s looking to develop their financial management skills? Do we have a treat for you!  We’re offering a series of low cost, small group, 2-hour, interactive, online workshops with Amanda Whitney of Young Associates (https://www.youngassociates.ca/on four Wednesdays early in the new year: January 12, 19, 26 and February 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. each day.   

We promise that you’ll emerge with insights into the connection between financial and artistic health, the confidence to query the numbers in front of you, and the ability to contribute to better decision-making.

Details:

Session 1: ABC’s of Finances [January 12th, 11:00am-1:00pm]

  • A presentation on the basics of financial statements, particularly the stories that numbers in a financial statement can tell you about your organization. There will be a workshop portion to illustrate how to interpret them.

Session 2: Debt and Deficits [January 19th, 11:00am-1:00pm]

  • What to know about current and impending deficits, with a new section on the impacts of COVID on analyzing financial trends. There will be a workshop portion to discuss different scenarios and potential solutions.

Session 3: Policies, Procedures, and Internal Controls for Small Organizations [January 26th, 11:00am-1:00pm]

  • Best practices for internal financial policies for small organizations, including a brief section of how COVID affects policy making. There will be a workshop portion to discuss different scenarios and potential solutions.

Session 4: The Impacts of COVID on Financial Planning [February 2nd, 11:00am-1:00pm]

  • Dealing with surpluses due to decreased expenses/activity during the period of COVID, and planning budget scenarios. There will be a workshop portion to discuss the different impacts COVID has had on the sector.
