\nThe Toronto Symphony Orchestra, now in its 98th season, is one of the largest and most attended performing arts institutions in the country. With a core ensemble of 93 musicians, 130 performances each season, and annual attendance of 270,000, the TSO plays a vital role in the city\u2019s dynamic cultural life. Soon to celebrate its centennial, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra\u2019s name remains synonymous with musical versatility and growth, and artistic distinction. Sir Andrew Davis serves as TSO Interim Artistic Director for the 2019\/20 season, prior to the arrival of incoming Music Director Gustavo Gimeno in 2020\/21.<\/p>\n
Position Summary:
\nReporting to the Vice-President, Marketing (soon to be Vice-President, Communications) and a member of TSO\u2019s marketing and communications team, the Digital Content Manager plays a key role in furthering the organization\u2019s artistic, audience development, and financial objectives through the art of digital storytelling. The primary responsibility is managing a robust and dynamic social media presence\u2014driving earned and unearned revenue, awareness, engagement, and retention for a broad array of stakeholders. The Digital Content Manager will create (ideate, plan, write, photograph, film, edit, proofread) and post content for social media channels, TSO website, and patron emails, while also maintaining a social media content calendar.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:
\n1. Manage the TSO\u2019s social media strategy, from ideation to implementation\u2014brainstorm, plan, write, photograph, film, edit, and proofread dynamic and engaging content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
\n2. Identify emerging content opportunities and advise on methods to repurpose existing content in different ways to support earned revenue expectations and goals
\n3. Maintain a social media calendar, planning posts to meet institutional priorities inclusive of all TSO activities and departments
\n4. Ensure the TSO\u2019s welcoming, inviting, and engaging voice and tone is consistent on digital platforms, including social media channels, TSO websites, and email communications
\n5. Attend performances and events (fundraising, media, community engagement) to capture and produce original writing, video, photography, social media and e-newsletter content
\n6. Monitor replies and messages on social media channels, including nights and weekends
\n7. Assist with developing and deploying content for paid social media campaigns
\n8. Facilitate influencer events and assets as needed in collaboration with the communications team
\n9. Project manage TSO\u2019s institutional monthly storytelling email Noteworthy to share behind-the-scenes content with constituents
\n10. Assist Senior Web Manager with ongoing updates serving multiple departments throughout the organization; crop and post images or edit content for the website as needed
\n11. Coordinate photo and video shoots with contracted photographers and videographers, including keeping production schedule, assisting with shoot logistics, and shepherding approvals
\n12. Assist the public relations team with collecting, filing, and distributing traditional media coverage of the TSO, as well as traditional media-list contact management and press release distribution
\n13. Assist as a secondary resource in coordinating media interviews with musicians and guest artists; attend concerts and other institutional events to cultivate relationships with local media; monitor and escort media; distribute press materials; service image and video requests
\n14. Work concert duty as required by the marketing and communications team (approximately 1\u20132 times per month, involving evening and weekend hours)<\/p>\n
Knowledge\/Skills\/Abilities:
\n1. Bachelor’s degree required in journalism, communications, English, creative writing, integrated marketing, multimedia, or digital media production
\n2. Two to three years of professional experience preferred
\n3. Superior storytelling and copywriting capabilities to create compelling, clean copy and conduct cross-platform editing
\n4. Command of video editing techniques and experience using Adobe Premiere or related video editing software
\n5. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, Audition, Photoshop, InDesign, Google Analytics, Google GSuite, Microsoft Office
\n6. Coursework or study in graphic and digital design preferred
\n7. Superior interpersonal skills, detail oriented, excellent organizational and time management skills
\n8. Ability to work cross-functionally, collaborating with multiple departments and stakeholders
\n9. Demonstrates independent, mature judgement; conveys a professional image and attitude
\n10. Ability to function at a high level of productivity in a fast-paced, high-energy environment; proven success managing many projects simultaneously
\n11. Desirable: Previous experience with an arts organization and genuine interest and passion for live entertainment and classical music<\/p>\n
Working Conditions\/Physical Demands:
\nRoutine for office environment with some travel to rehearsals, concerts, and other events. The employee will be required to perform the essential functions of the job during evening and weekend concerts and\/or events.<\/p>\n
