This could take the form of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an annual salary (or salary range)<\/li>\n<li>an hourly rate (or range)<\/li>\n<li>a per service rate<\/li>\n<li>a total amount, for contract work or an RFP for example<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pro-bono jobs or professional development opportunities will be marked as such. Many of the jobs posted on our job board are for positions in unionized orchestras, where pay is defined in a collective agreement. We want to make the terms of pay as clear as possible to the musicians applying for these jobs. Likewise, we want to make salary details as clear as possible up front for administrative jobs as well.<\/p>\n<p>Mandatory salary disclosure is fast becoming standard in the arts and non-profit industries. Practices such as this promote pay equity, help to reduce the gender and colour wage gaps, and are win-win for employers and job-seekers for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>For employers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It saves time when hiring. You\u2019ll get fewer candidates who are overqualified or underqualified. Waiting until the end of the hiring process to discuss salary expectations means you could interview several candidates before finding someone who will agree with your terms.<\/li>\n<li>It reduces staff turnover. Disclosing salary expectations early on minimizes the difference between a job seeker\u2019s expectations and their reality. It starts out the employer-employee relationship as one of trust.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s fast becoming industry-standard. Other arts and non-profit job services following these practices are <a href=\"https:\/\/workinculture.ca\/FYI\/WorkInCulture-Connects\/September-2019\/To-Post-or-not-to-Post-(the-salary!)\">Work In Culture,<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/pact.ca\/salary-information-becoming-mandatory-on-artsboard\/\">Professional Alliance for Canadian Theatres,<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/theonn.ca\/onn-launches-salary-mandated-job-site\/\">Ontario Non-Profit Network,<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allianceforarts.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/19\/bc-alliance-takes-lead-salary-disclosure-required-on-our-jobs-board?rq=job%20salary\">BC Alliance for Arts and Culture,<\/a> and many more. Some people simply do not apply for jobs that don\u2019t include salary information. Hiding this may be driving away good candidates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>For job-seekers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It saves time when job searching. Salary ranges are often a good indicator of the level of experience and qualifications you might need for a job. It means you won\u2019t spend all day writing a cover letter for a job for which you\u2019re woefully underqualified.<\/li>\n<li>It acknowledges that people need to support themselves. You can make an informed decision about whether the particular job is an appropriate fit in your current financial or family situation.<\/li>\n<li>It helps to reduce the <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/pub\/11f0019m\/11f0019m2019018-eng.htm\">gender<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conferenceboard.ca\/hcp\/provincial\/society\/racial-gap.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1\">colour<\/a> wage gaps.
