Each year, the OM sparks wonder in more than 11,000 young people across Montreal through an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orchestremetropolitain.com\/en\/young-people\/young-music-lovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/orchestrascanada.us18.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D50f6cc7b717918dc43438489c%26id%3D21237c02d2%26e%3D6ecb9f84d0&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556116272636000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEr_qsU-gRpiEviq5sDBbXQskBDwg\">educational program<\/a>\u00a0with two initiatives: <strong><em>The OM at School<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><em>Playing it Forward<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3987\" src=\"https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-at-School-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-at-School-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-at-School.jpg 578w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 960px) 75vw, 100vw\" \/>The OM at School<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0provides an opportunity for meaningful encounters between students and musicians, in the form of workshops held in schools, and by welcoming school groups to rehearsals and concerts. Last December, the art works of some 15 kindergarten students at \u00c9cole Notre-Dame-des-Neiges embellished the foyer of the Maison symphonique. The students, who attended the dress rehearsal, were able to see their works on display, and to present one as a gift to conductor Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin. In preparation for the outing, the students had learned about Schumann\u2019s\u00a0<em>Piano Concerto<\/em>, one of the works on the program, and were paid a visit by the OM\u2019s artistic partner, conductor Nicolas Ellis, who answered their questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3989\" src=\"https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-Playing-it-forward-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-Playing-it-forward-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/oc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/OM-Playing-it-forward.jpg 492w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 960px) 75vw, 100vw\" \/>Playing it Forward<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0aims to provide a forum for young musicians and to support their development through mentoring, master classes and other activities. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orchestremetropolitain.com\/fr\/young-music-lovers-preludes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/orchestrascanada.us18.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D50f6cc7b717918dc43438489c%26id%3Db3512bf3d2%26e%3D6ecb9f84d0&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556116272636000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHW9jvoAUGCAcmSBU4m5Q_U3cjIkg\">OM Preludes<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>musical performances<\/strong>\u00a0given by young and talented musicians as a prologue to OM concerts, is an example. The young performers then attend the concert free of charge and a few have the privilege of presenting flowers on stage to the conductors and soloists we welcome. Another Playing It Forward project is the creation of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orchestremetropolitain.com\/en\/young-people\/omni-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/orchestrascanada.us18.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D50f6cc7b717918dc43438489c%26id%3D4d3b8fc734%26e%3D6ecb9f84d0&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1556116272637000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG8LKpz2PDtsK_Rb0HmcgBJlKo2_w\">OMNI competition<\/a>. Devoted to young musicians between 7 and 17, the competition gives entrants the chance to display their talent in a relaxed setting that encourages connections between young people who share the same passion, and discussion with professional musicians.
