Vice-President & General Manager<\/p>\n
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra is seeking a Vice-President & General Manager (VP & GM) to join the TSO Senior Management Team.<\/strong> The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the planning and management of both orchestra and concert operations, including the areas of production, orchestra personnel, library, contract negotiations and compliance, service scheduling, touring, electronic media, and facilities management. They will be responsible for setting and achieving all budgets associated with these areas. The VP & GM is the primary senior management interface with the musicians of the orchestra and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Remuneration: $100,000-$130,000<\/p>\n RESPONSIBILITIES: <\/strong><\/p>\n Orchestra Management <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Create and implement a long-term strategy for the collective bargaining agreement (the “Master Agreement”) to align with institutional goals. Be ultimately responsible for the TSO’s compliance with the terms of the Master Agreement.<\/p>\n \u2022 Lead the contract negotiations team for the TSO-TMA (Toronto Musicians’ Association) Master Agreement. Negotiate individual musician contracts.<\/p>\n \u2022 Provide leadership and support to the Orchestra Personnel Office. Manage the Orchestra Personnel Office involvement in short and long-term planning, auditions, contract administration, grievances, and musician issues. Ensure alignment with long-range planning goals and financial objectives.<\/p>\n \u2022 Develop and maintain an open, collaborative, and communicative environment among musicians, between musicians and management, and between the TSO and the Toronto Musicians’ Association. Lead Orchestra Committee meetings; address committee issues and attend sub-committee meetings as necessary.<\/p>\n Concert Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Direct and supervise the Orchestra Operations team including the Orchestra Operations Manager; Orchestra Operations Assistant; Production Manager; and Librarians. Ensure the professional execution of the department’s responsibilities to realize the concert season.<\/p>\n \u2022 Plan and lead the production of all TSO performance activities in a manner that achieves institutional artistic and fiscal objectives.<\/p>\n \u2022 Act as key contact for Roy Thomson Hall (RTH) relations as it relates to the TSO’s long-term lease of the hall and office space, facilities issues, IATSE, and general bookings. Develop\/maintain an excellent relationship between TSO and RTH management.<\/p>\n \u2022 Provide management oversight on all non-RTH venue bookings and contracts (e.g., Meridian Arts Centre, Meridian Hall, Koerner Hall, Massey Hall, and various venues for community engagement across the GTA).<\/p>\n \u2022 Develop and execute media activities including broadcasts and recordings with the goals of meeting financial objectives, increasing the profile of the TSO, and supporting touring and fund raising initiatives. Ensure all media projects comply with the provisions of the Master Agreement.<\/p>\n \u2022 Plan, with the Vice-President, Artistic Planning, and direct the TSO’s domestic and international tours, run-outs, and special and private concerts, in a manner that achieves institutional artistic and fiscal objectives.<\/p>\n \u2022 Oversee and help implement health & safety protocols for musicians as they return to the workplace.<\/p>\n Financial Management & Administration<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Budgetary responsibility of $13 million+<\/p>\n o Orchestra Management: fixed cost, including musician compensation \u2022 Manage hiring, staffing, training, and performance evaluations of all Orchestra Operations department members.<\/p>\n \u2022 Undertakes all duties and responsibilities with an awareness and understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion being woven into all TSO activities.<\/p>\n Flexibility of working schedule is required.
