Orchestra and Tour Manager, National Arts Centre Orchestra
Nelson McDougall has over 15 years of experience as an arts administration professional. Born into a musical family, Nelson pursued the trumpet and received post-secondary and graduate degrees in Trumpet Performance from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia.
While studying in Vancouver, Nelson was a frequent performer with the Vancouver Symphony and was a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. A move to Toronto led to performances with the Toronto Symphony and most frequently with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
While in Toronto, Nelson was invited to join the administrative staff of the National Youth Orchestra (NYO) of Canada. In his second year of employment he was asked to plan and oversee the NYO’s Japan/China/Canada tour in the summer of 2002.
In 2004 Nelson took the opportunity to join the music department of the National Arts Centre (NAC) as the Orchestra’s Personnel Manager. In 2012 Nelson was asked to assume responsibility for the NAC’s 2013 China Tour led by Music Director Pinchas Zukerman. Later that year, Nelson was promoted to Orchestra and Tour Manager.
