OC Board Member | General Manager, National Arts Centre Orchestra
Marc Stevens has been General Manager of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 2014, and served as Acting Managing Director for 11 months in 2018–19. Under his leadership the NAC Orchestra’s unprecedented performance on Parliament Hill on Canada Day 2019 was broadcast on CBC TV, and the Orchestra has received multiple JUNO Award nominations, and its recordings won Best Classical Composition JUNOs in 2018 and 2019. Previously he spent 12 years at the London Symphony Orchestra working with many major artists. Significant projects included the London 2012 Olympic Games Ceremonies and Trafalgar Square concerts, and hundreds of recordings such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. Marc also worked for the Aldeburgh Music’s Young Artist Program, and at Glyndebourne Opera, following a BA(Hons) in Music Industry Management with Italian. He has served on the Orchestras Canada Board since 2015 and led the creation of its current strategic plan: Orchestras Matter. Marc strives to champion gender parity and diversity, and achieved notable improvement at the NAC Orchestra, including inviting Chineke! Orchestra to make their Canadian debut in April 2020. Marc learnt to skate on the Rideau and ski in Gatineau, and is over the moon to have recently become a Canadian citizen.
